Who we are
verd de gris is a public art company based in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire. Set up in 1999 by artists Sharon Marsden and Jeff Turner we specialise in creating community-based arts projects, tailored workshops and commissioned artwork.

Our approach to project work is centred on our shared interest in the ways in which the creative arts can be employed to help people find their voice - whether as individuals or as part of a wider community.

We try to create works in which the individual, shared or collective experience is placed at the centre of our investigations and our own artistic response is very often to frame these thoughts, ideas and concerns in as imaginative a way as possible.

"verd de gris understand community and education contexts, they are highly experienced arts practitioners and managers with the ability to make a significant contribution to the successful achievement of organisational objectives."
Shirley Lundstram, Arts and Cultural Development Manager, Salford City Council

What we do
Our aim is to try and address some of the cross-cultural as well as the intergenerational differences that many communities face.

Many of the children we work with are deemed to be 'at risk', and come from communities experiencing a great deal of social dislocation and fracture.

Projects like ours, that are about talking and listening, are just one way for young and old to begin to come together and talk about some of the issues that directly affect them and their communities.

Please have a look at our most recent project THE THINGS WE LEAVE BEHIND as well as some of our other work ...

Our work
current project work falls into three main strands:

Intergenerational
working with groups of older people and local primary and high schools and youth groups

Cultural understanding
bringing together groups of people, old and young, from different cultural backgrounds to explore aspects of art, life and culture

Art & Well-being

using a range of creative activities to enhance well being and quality of opportunity in later life
